What is the cost to hire a performance marketer in the US vs Latin America in 2026?
A senior performance marketer costs US$85k to 110k a year in the US and about half in Latin America. Here is the first-year math, fees included.

A senior media buyer in Austin costs around US$95k a year, by our estimate. The same seniority in São Paulo or Buenos Aires costs about half. The cost to hire a performance marketer at senior level runs from US$85k to 110k a year in the US and from US$38k to 52k in Latin America (fitted. estimates), and once you add a typical recruiter fee, the first-year gap passes US$65k.
This article breaks down where those numbers come from, what a full first year costs on each side, and what you should budget for beyond salary. If you hire paid media people for a US company or agency, this is the math we walk founders through on our calls.
How much does a senior performance marketer cost in the US?
There is no official salary category for "performance marketer", so the best public data brackets the role from both sides.
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the median annual wage for market research analysts and marketing specialists at US$78,760 (May 2025). That group includes many junior and mid-level marketers.
At the other end, the median for marketing managers is US$166,790 (May 2025). That is the people-management track, not the person running the ad accounts day to day.
A senior, hands-on performance marketer sits between those two. In the searches we run, US companies budget US$85k to 110k a year for that profile. That range is a fitted. estimate, not an official statistic, and it moves with city, industry and how much budget the person will own.
What does a media buyer salary look like in Latin America?
For the same seniority, our estimate for Latin America is US$38k to 52k a year. That is roughly 50 to 60% less than the US range above, and it is the band we confirm with each candidate before you meet them.
When people compare a media buyer salary in the US vs Latin America, the gap usually surprises them more than the profile does. These are people running the same platforms, Meta, Google, TikTok and LinkedIn, often for US and European clients already.
Three things move the number inside that band:
- Country and city. Brazil, Colombia and Argentina each have their own market, and big hubs pay more.
- Contract type. A contractor invoicing in US dollars usually expects a different number than an employee on local payroll.
- Scope. Owning a seven figure annual budget or leading other buyers pushes toward the top of the range.
Senior performance marketer: US vs Latin America at a glance
| United States | Latin America | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical senior salary (fitted. estimate) | US$85k to 110k | US$38k to 52k |
| Midpoint we use for planning | US$95k | US$45k |
| Typical recruiter fee | 20 to 25% of first-year salary | US$3,750 flat with fitted. |
| Working hours vs US Eastern | Same | 7 to 8 hours of overlap |
What is the real cost to hire a performance marketer in year one?
Salary is only part of it. Most US companies that use a recruiter pay a percentage of the first-year salary. Top Echelon, a US recruiting network, says the average placement fee across its recruiters is about 22.5% of first-year compensation. We use 20 and 25% below to show both ends.
Here is the first-year math with the planning midpoints from the table:
| First year, senior performance marketer | Salary | Recruiting fee | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| US hire, agency at 20% | US$95,000 | US$19,000 | US$114,000 |
| US hire, agency at 25% | US$95,000 | US$23,750 | US$118,750 |
| LatAm hire through fitted. | US$45,000 | US$3,750 | US$48,750 |
That is US$65,250 to US$70,000 kept in year one, before you count benefits. These totals are fitted. estimates built on the ranges above, not quotes.
The fee gap also grows with seniority. A percentage fee charges more the better the hire is paid. A flat fee does not move.
Why is LatAm marketing talent cost lower without lower quality?
The lower LatAm marketing talent cost comes from local cost of living and currency, not from a different skill set. A media buyer in São Paulo pays rent, food and taxes in a market that is far cheaper than Austin or New York, so a salary that is strong locally is about half of a US salary.
The work is the same work. The ad platforms, the attribution problems and the creative testing loops do not change at the border.
The real risk is not location. It is hiring someone who cannot do what their résumé says. That is a vetting problem, and it exists in every market.
This is why every candidate we shortlist is interviewed in English by a performance marketer, about accounts they actually ran: what they owned, which calls were theirs, and why.
Do the time zones actually work for a US team?
For most of the US, yes. São Paulo and Buenos Aires run on UTC−3 and Bogotá on UTC−5, so a 9 to 6 workday in those cities overlaps most of a 9 to 5 day on US Eastern time.
By our count that is 7 to 8 hours of shared working time with a New York team, depending on the city and the time of year. Central time keeps most of that overlap. Pacific teams still get a solid morning block.
In practice this means standups, client calls and same-day feedback work. You are not waiting overnight for a campaign change.
What else should you budget for when hiring in Latin America?
The salary and fee are the big numbers, but plan for these too:
- How you contract them. Hiring a contractor is the simplest setup. An employer of record such as Deel or Remote handles local employment for a monthly fee. Check current pricing with the provider you choose.
- Equipment and tools. Laptop, ad tool seats and any analytics software they need.
- Onboarding time. Account access, brand guidelines and a first 30 day plan matter more than location.
- Benefits you want to offer. Many companies add a health stipend or paid time off on top of salary.
None of these come close to the US salary gap, but a fair budget includes them.
How does fitted. price a search?
We charge US$3,750 per hire, whatever the salary. It is split in two:
- US$750 to start the search.
- US$3,000 when your hire accepts the offer.
That covers sourcing across Latin America, screening on channels, budget and hours, a technical and English interview, a written scorecard for each shortlisted candidate, interview scheduling and offer support. If the shortlist misses, we keep searching. The US$3,000 is only due when someone accepts.
